Description

Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Rosé is a 750 ml rosé champagne first created in 1988 and launched in 1995 as a tribute to Madame Clicquot, reflecting the House's terroir with freshness, silkiness, elegance and spiciness.

The 2008 growing season brought a cool, rainy spring followed by a cool, dry summer that ripened the grapes in excellent conditions. The cuvée draws on 6 of the House's 8 historical Grands Crus: 92% Pinot Noir from Aÿ, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Verzy and Verzenay, and 8% Chardonnay from Le-Mesnil-sur-Oger, with 14% Pinot Noir red wine from Clos Colin in Bouzy, the vineyard's most iconic plot. Dominique Demarville pushed the Pinot Noir proportion to 92%, among the highest ever, in keeping with Madame Clicquot's fondness for structure and strength.

The nose is powerful, with raspberry and strawberry alongside blood orange and grapefruit, then subtle spiced red berries, rooibos tea and leather. On the palate, cherry, strawberry, blackberry and blackcurrant lead, with long aging notes, dried flowers and smoke adding complexity. The overall profile is one of red berries, citrus and brioche, elegant and refined. It pairs with beef, ravioli with prawns, lamb and stuffed tomatoes.
