Rest in oak gives Sangre Altena Reposado its golden hue and its measured profile. Like all reposados, it spends between 2 and 12 months in wood, long enough for vanilla-tinged oak, caramel and light spice to settle in alongside the sweetness of the agave. It's bottled in Mexico at 40% ABV in a 750 ml format.
The wood works with the agave here rather than covering it, so the tequila reads as layered without the weight of a cask-strength pour. That makes it workable as a sipper, as the base of a classic margarita, or in more involved cocktails.
