Fourteen years in European oak shaped this single malt, drawn from a selection of casks at the Teaninich Distillery. Teaninich dates to 1817 and has built a reputation for whisky distilling alongside forward-looking production technology. Both the distillery and Teaninich Castle sit in the Scottish Highlands, looking out over the shores of the Cromarty Firth.
The name reaches back into old Scottish folklore. The Kelpie of legend is a shape-shifting water spirit, a 'water horse' tied both to the summoning of water and to Scotland's long tradition of working the land for barley. In the glass, the nose offers tangerine, pear, sweet confectionery and dried herbs, while the palate turns to vanilla, red apple and mint. Bottled at 47.4% ABV in a 750 ml bottle, it suits being poured neat or over ice.
