Description

Old Potrero has been distilling in San Francisco since 1993, making it the first American craft whiskey to appear after Prohibition. This Toasted Barrel release comes off a small copper pot still, built entirely from rye malt, and spends at least six years in new toasted American White Oak. Bottled at 66.2% ABV in a 700 ml bottle.

The casks themselves follow 18th-century cooperage practice: staves are heated over fires of oak chips so they bend into shape while the inside of the barrel takes on a light toast, which shapes both the color and the character of the whiskey. The wood is extra-fine grain American White Oak air-dried for 24 months. In the glass it's rich and layered, with measured sweetness, clean fresh oak, firm rye spice, and a malty, grainy undertone.

    About Old Potrero

Old Potrero looks back to the artisanal whiskies made in early America, distilling rye in copper pot stills in San Francisco. The brand is closely tied to the revival of pot-distilled whiskey in the United States.
