Description
This blended malt carries the name of Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka and the first Japanese distiller to learn whisky-making in Scotland before bringing that knowledge home. Malt whiskies drawn from Nikka's Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries are selected and married together, and the blend was reworked in 2020 alongside new packaging. Bottled at 43% ABV in a 750 ml format.
The nose opens with soft peat, malted grain and a lift of bright citrus. On the palate it turns rounded, with sweet spice, cereal notes and candied fruit, while the finish runs long and smooth, holding onto fruit, gentle warmth and a trace of spice. Softness, weight and a thread of smoke sit in balance throughout.
