Espolon began with founder Cirilo Oropeza, who drew on two Mexican icons as he shaped the tequila he had in mind: the rooster, a symbol of national pride, and the revolutionary artist Jose Guadalupe Posada. Those influences became a rooster named Ramon and Posada-inspired artwork that together define the brand's meaning.
