Two spirit traditions meet in this bottling: Colombian rum distilled between 1979 and 1982, then given a 45-month finish in straight rye casks. The long-aged rum base carries the weight of decades in wood, while the rye barrels layer in oak grip and dry spice drawn from American whiskey making.
The result is a 45% ABV rum that opens on cinnamon and crab apple jelly, with spiced oak and ample vanilla behind it and fresh ginger lifting the mid-palate. A thread of BBQ smoke runs through, closing on new leather and suede. Bottled at 750 ml as an ultra-limited release from master blender Hernan Parra's work with Barton's artisans.
