Built on the original 1800s template of spirit, sugar, water and bitters, this limited release from Crafthouse Cocktails takes the Old Fashioned in a coffee direction. The bourbon was hand-selected from seven barrels of Traverse City Whiskey Co.'s premium aging stock and joined with carefully roasted coffee from Dark Matter Coffee in Chicago. Bitters made specifically for the bottling bring together citrus peel, baking spices and cacao from Sleep Walk Chocolateria, a combination shaped by co-founder Charles Joly. Bottled at 25.6% ABV in a 750 ml format.
The nose leans spicy, with clove, cedar and cumin sitting over warm oak. It arrives cool and faintly grassy on the palate before opening into a full, rounded body that carries cane sugar sweetness and a touch of citrus, then closes on walnut.
