Description

Código 1530 Mezcal Ancestral Joven is made from 100% Papalome maguey in Oaxaca, following the ancient process that honors the origins of mezcal, the people producing it, and the region itself. No electrical machinery or tools are used at any stage, and the fermentation vats, stills, and pestle have been used for generations.

Fermentation takes place in the open air in a leather vat, followed by distillation in a clay pot still. Because no machines or automation are involved, this expression is exceptionally rare.

The agave is roasted in earthen pits, giving a smoky, earthy character with roasted agave and citrus zest, and a hint of minerality and pepper on the finish. Bottled at 43.1% ABV (86.2 proof) in a 750 ml bottle.
