Bruichladdich Octomore Edition 14.2 is a heavily peated Islay single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 57.7% ABV in a 750 ml bottle. Head Distiller Adam Hannett built it from a combination of ex-Oloroso and Amarone casks, with a finishing period in French oak.
The Oloroso component brings the sweetness and nuttiness associated with that sherry cask, while the Amarone adds rich red fruit complexity. Against that backdrop, Octomore's peak smoke meets a robust, savoury cask character, giving a layered whisky that balances wood-driven nuance with fruit-forward depth.
The European oak influence is unmissable: a touch of dryness set against vibrant wood spices, smoked oak and roasted coffee. Barbeque sweetness and a crack of black pepper run alongside rich fruit cake and dried fruits. With a drop of water, the smoke and the fruity sweetness from the wine casks open up, and notes of apple and pear grow as the dram develops.
