Description
Meaning ‘the original’ in Gaelic, A’bunadh is made in homage to Aberlour’s founder, James Fleming. A’bunadh is a whisky hand-made from start to finish with each batch being created to ensure a rich and complex flavour of moist raisin, and homemade fruit cake. It is bottled at cask strength resulting in a robust and deeply intense, sherried whisky.
Launched in 1998, the original A’Bunadh was a breakaway success. It’s known as “a true pace-setter for the industry and changed the way whisky drinkers thought about the strength of whisky and the way it is matured." Today, A’Bunadh Alba offers a smooth counterpoint to the classic A’Bunadh’s richness and spice. It brings a honeyed sweetness which appeals to the committed Bourbon drinker, owing to maturation in first-fill Bourbon barrel. This innovative spin on our award-winning classic, A’Bunadh, Alba showcases the quality and craft that is synonymous with our distillery through an elegant liquid perfected by American Oak.
Product History
The Aberlour Distillery, estd 1879, lies in the village of aberlour in the heart of Speyside, the country’s premier whisky-making region which is renowned for producing whiskies of subtle depth and elegance. Aberlour is an historical place and its story stretches back over a thousand years. In the ancient past, a druid community lived in the valley. The druids valued oak trees and water and believed you could hear the water spirits talking to each other. Aberlour is a Gaelic word meaning ‘mouth of the chattering burn’ (stream). Water and an oak tree still feature today on the Aberlour label. The distillery was built in 1879 by James Fleming, a grain merchant turned distiller, entrepreneur and later—a great philanthropist. Our expertly crafted new spirit is usually double cask matured for a minimum of 12 years in the finest hand-picked Oloroso Sherry butts, and in American oak barrels. When judged ready for bottling, the whiskies are carefully married to create a truly rich and rewardingly complex range of single malts.
